Topics of modelling, experimentation and simulation using problem based learning to solve problems in the context of a mechatronic system. The tasks which students complete in this unit provide opportunities to solve “open”, rather than “closed” problems. The “open” problem of this unit is to develop a model that predicts the time for a simple mechatronic vehicle to ascend an incline. The syllabus requires the student to actively participate and seek out “better” answers.
Solving open mechatronic engineering problems and using system principles: hierarchies and abstractions.
Problem analysis, design and creation of models and experiments.
